Dion Phaneuf

Dion Phaneuf was named the cover player for NHL 09, probably being one of the worst players ever. He was drafted ninth overall and has gotten three awards, the WHL Bill Hunter Trophy in 2004 and 2005, and the NHL Rookie of the Month, in November of 2005. He also played for the NHL Western All Stars in 2007 and 2008, and was runner up for the Norris Trophy in 2008. All of these things mean completely nothing. With a 6.5 million dollar salary, he seems to be one of the most overpayed players. Without being able to committ the team, always being out of position after trying to go for hits, and putting points before his defensive skills, he fills a large part of the salary cap while dragging it down overall. Phaneuf is one of the worst players to be getting paid as much as he is, and the team would do well to demote his contract before he reaches the 7 million dollar contract limit without really deserving it.
